Strengthening work on Waiwawa River Bridge in Coroglen in the Coromandel has been successfully completed.

Waka Kotahi contractors began work to improve the capacity of the bridge in February and are pleased to have completed the work on schedule, despite weather delays and Covid related supply chain disruptions.

Now that bridge strengthening is complete, the current 10km/h restriction for heavy vehicles will be removed.

Contractors are currently dismantling the scaffolding under the bridge and tidying up the site. Traffic will not be affected during this period, with work able to be safely undertaken from beneath the bridge.

Short night closures will be required next week to allow the last of the scaffolding to be removed. The bridge will be closed periodically between 8pm and 6am, from Tuesday 16 August to Thursday 18 August (weather permitting), and motorists should expect delays of 10 to 15 minutes during these hours.

This activity is being scheduled during the night to minimise disruption to road users and Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience.
