In response to the deeply concerning new ruling from the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) on West Virginia vs. The Environmental Protection Agency, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) issued the following statement from Marcene Mitchell, Senior Vice President for Climate:
“It is deeply disappointing to see the Court interpret the law in a way that limits urgent efforts to respond to the climate crisis and our ability to conserve nature and address other pressing environmental challenges.
“We need effective policies and decisive U.S. government leadership to tackle the existential threat of climate change. It is now more imperative than ever for Congress to enact comprehensive legislation that addresses the deepening climate crisis. This should include explicitly giving EPA the authority and tools it needs to address our greatest environmental challenges, including the regulatory flexibility that even industry has said is needed. This kind of flexibility is not just critical for EPA, but for the multiple federal agencies that are addressing critical aspects of the climate challenge in areas such as transportation and infrastructure.”
