COVID-19 deaths

Today we are sadly reporting the deaths of 16 people with COVID-19. All these deaths occurred in the past 7days, apart from 1 death on 11 May and 1 death on 23 April.

Today’s reported deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 1,390 and the 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 12.

Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today: 2 were from Northland, 6 were from the Auckland region, 1 was from Waikato; 1 was from Taranaki; 2 were from the Wellington region; 3 were from Canterbury; and 1 was from South Canterbury.

One person was in their 40s; 1 was in their 60s; 4 were in their 70s; 8 were in their 80s; and 2 were aged over 90. Of these people, 4 were women and 12 were men.

This is a very sad time for whānau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them. Out of respect, we will be making no further comment on these deaths.
