Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises people to take care travelling over the Remutaka Hill on State Highway 2 due to strong winds.

People are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and, if they must travel, to take extra care, particularly motorcycles and high-sided vehicles.

The road may need to close at short notice to ensure everyone’s safety.

State Highway 53 remains closed between Featherston and Martinborough, with detours in place. People should allow additional time for their journeys.

Waka Kotahi asks everyone to take extra care when travelling due to the wintry driving conditions and the heightened risk of slips, flooding and debris across the Lower North Island.

People are encouraged to visit the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website and Wellington region Facebook page for up-to-date information before they travel.
