Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises the Mangatewainui Bridge on State Highway 2 south of Norsewood is down to one lane due to cracking on the bridge deck.

The bridge remains safe for use by traffic.

Stop/Go traffic management with a temporary speed limit of 30km/h is in place. Contractors may look to install temporary traffic lights to control the flow of traffic later this week.

Contractors expect to repair and reseal the bridge later this week or early next week depending on resource availability, however, the seal will take at least 24 hours to set, dependant on weather and temperatures. Once the seal has set, the bridge will reopen to two lanes.

Visit the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website for up to date information on the work.

People travelling this route are asked to plan ahead for minor delays, adhere to the temporary speed limit and follow the directions of traffic management staff and signs.

Waka Kotahi thanks everyone for their patience while we undertake this important repair work.
