Maintaining strong connections to our schools and students is key to our success.

Toi Ohomai Head of Māori Success Leonie Nicholls has come on board to provide leadership support for the Head of Youth and Community Engagement.

She is grateful to the dedication of the Trades Academy Team in working with you all, and the ongoing success we manage together for our students to pathway to achieve their goals. Our tutors and faculties play a huge role in helping us build a bridge of strong communication about our students, nurturing their study journeys to success.

The valuable combinations of our work ethics together have proved our students to pathway from STP to tertiary education and or apprenticeships and/or employment opportunities.

At end of May, we have more than 700 students participating in Trades Academy programmes from Level 1-3, across a range of subject areas, from schools across the rohe. We are pleased with the level of interest shown and engagement of these students, despite the ongoing challenges of COVID. We still manage to keep connected to our students via online learning and this has proven successful when we have worked closely with schools, thank you for your support.

It’s great seeing our Trades Academy students making the most of the opportunities provided and enjoying being able to engage at the tertiary level, an adult environment. We have had feedback from schools in how much confidence their students have gained through this experience. We get to see the increased confidence in these students as a result of their hands-on learning.

Our team is working hard with faculties to plan and deliver exciting new options for 2023 for example, music, creative arts, fashion design, make-up, game and real time design, and forestry. We are ready to receive more of your students to our programmes, nau mai, haere mai ki Toi Ohomai!
