State Highway 4 remains open to one lane under traffic light control for light traffic only between the intersections with State Highway 43 and Okahukura Bridge Road, north of Taumarunui, after flooding of a culvert caused a large hole to form on the side of the road yesterday.

A geotechnical engineer has visited the site today and crews are currently working to drain the water and clear the inlet to allow further investigation to inform a long term solution. Crews will remain on-site 24/7 over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

People can expect disruption to their journeys in this area for some time as the investigations so far suggest the fix is likely to be complex.

People are asked to plan ahead, allow extra time and follow the directions of traffic management staff and signs.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience and will provide further updates over the coming days.
