Update from the Ministry of Health

The 7-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 6,937 — last Thursday, it was 7,095.

COVID-19 deaths

Today we are sadly reporting the deaths of 13 people with COVID-19 — 11 deaths were in the past 48 hours and 2 were in January this year.

These deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 1,197 and the 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 14. One previously announced death has been removed from our totals, as it was reclassified as not a COVID-19 case.

Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today; 4 were from the Auckland region, 4 were from Canterbury, 2 from Southern, and 1 each from Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, and Wellington.

Four people were in their 60s, 1 was in their 70s, 5 were in their 80s, and 3 were aged over 90.

Of these people, 7 were male and 6 were female.

This is a very sad time for whānau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them.

Out of respect, we will be making no further comment on these deaths.
