Update from the Ministry of Health

Today we are reporting 8,436 new community cases, 389 current hospitalisations, and 18 deaths.

The 7-day rolling average of community case numbers today is 6,885 — last Monday, it was 7,507.

COVID-19 deaths

Today we are sadly reporting the deaths of 18 people with COVID-19.

These deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 1,172 and the 7-day rolling average of reported deaths is 14.

Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today; 3 were from Northland, 2 were from the Auckland region, 1 was from Waikato, 1 was from Taranaki, 2 were from Midcentral, 2 from Nelson Marlborough, 3 from Canterbury, 2 from West Coast and 2 from the Southern region.

One person was in their 50s, 2 were in their 60s, 1 was in their 70s, 8 were in their 80s and 6 were over 90.

Of these people, 10 were male and 8 were female.

This is a very sad time for whānau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them.

Out of respect, we will be making no further comment on these deaths.
