The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is calling for submissions about a new nematicide, Nimitz, which controls plant parasitic nematodes that damage root and tuber vegetable crops.
Adama New Zealand Limited has applied for approval to introduce Nimitz, an emulsifiable concentrate containing the active ingredient fluensulfone for use on carrots, kūmara, parsnips, and potatoes.
Fluensulfone is a new active ingredient to Aotearoa New Zealand but has been approved in other countries including Australia, Canada, Japan, and the USA. If approved, Nimitz would be restricted to professional users in commercial settings and applied using ground-based methods only.
The EPA has reviewed the material submitted by Adama and carried out a human health and environmental risk assessment. You can read about the EPA’s risk assessment in the science memorandum to help inform your submission.
This public consultation enables you to provide us with further information, such as beneficial or adverse effects, additional to those put forward by the applicant.
You have until 5.00 pm on 30 June 2022 to have your say.
