Works to improve road conditions on State Highway 59 (SH59) between Linden and Porirua will take place from mid-May to late-June.
The project involves day and night road resurfacing works on SH59 to make the highway safer, as it is showing some signs of deterioration. The works can get underway now the Transmission Gully Motorway is open.
The highway will be closed for nightworks as the road will be blocked by large machinery and equipment, with the detour route through local roads. There will be single-lane closures during the day. Details as follows.
15 May to 6 June (16 nights): SH59 northbound highway closure between Mungavin interchange and Transmission Gully interchange with detour – Sundays to Thursdays, 9pm-6am.
All northbound highway traffic will detour:
- via Transmission Gully to the Waitangirua interchange, or
- use the Tawa northbound offramp to Main Road, Tawa and Kenepuru Drive, Porirua.
7 June to 22 June (12 nights): SH59 southbound highway closure between Mungavin interchange and Transmission Gully interchange with detour – Sundays to Thursdays, 9pm-6am.
All southbound highway traffic will detour via Mungavin Avenue and Kenepuru Drive to access the motorway via the Kenepuru interchange.
Works during the day will require a single-lane closure on weekdays and throughout the weekends. For northbound traffic, this will be in place for the first three weeks of the project, then for southbound traffic for the two weeks following that.
