At the University of Canterbury (UC), we are delighted that the government is re-opening the visa system for international students.

Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 – Quality Education

The Government’s staged border reopening has been brought forward to 31 July 2022 at 11.59pm, which means our international students currently studying offshore will be able to apply for a student visa from this date and join us on campus in due course.

We are looking forward to supporting students who have persevered with online learning and welcoming them to campus, as well as welcoming new students to Canterbury. As we navigate this, please refer to our international students update page for advice.

Students who are part of a border exception cohort can also find support on our website. UC students approved for a border exception cohort should continue their visa processing as per the instructions they’ve received from the UC team to ensure they are able to arrive on campus from mid-2022.

International students bring diversity, representing 190 different nations to UC and we value these students within our community. This is an exciting time and at UC we welcome the opportunity to support international students as they transition back to campus.
