Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that work to replace the Stock Effluent Disposal Facility located on State Highway 3 at Ahititi, just north of Mt. Messenger, in Taranaki, will start on Wednesday 27 April.

Taranaki System Manager Maintenance and Operations Rob Service says the work is expected to take 6-8 weeks, dependent on weather, impacts of COVID-19 and other unforeseeable delays.

“With plans for the new containment facility complete, work to replace the stock effluent plant with a more environmentally sustainable alternative can commence.”

Mr Service says stock trucks can continue to use the existing facility to dispose of effluent waste while the work is underway.

“There may be times when stock trucks will need to wait 5-10 minutes to access the facility while construction machinery is moved out of the way, however disruption will be kept to a minimum.”

The new stock effluent disposal facility will have an electronic sensor, which will alert Waka Kotahi when it is nearing capacity and needs to be emptied. Waste will then be transported offsite for treatment and disposed of at an approved disposal site.

This upgrade to the SH3 Ahititi stock effluent disposal facility will ensure that stock trucks continue to have a reliable and safe disposal facility, which minimises environmental risks to the local area.
