A committee to review the funding levels for services provided to members of Parliament and parliamentary parties was established recently by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Trevor Mallard.

The Parliamentary Service Act 2000 requires that a review is conducted in each parliamentary term of the funding to provide services to the House of Representatives and members of Parliament, and for funding entitlements for parliamentary purposes.

The committee members are Bill Moran (Chair), and former Ministers the Hon Ruth Dyson and the Hon Roger Sowry. Former member Kevin Hague is the official advisor to the committee.

The Speaker noted that “this committee includes cross-party voices that will reflect on how members are supported to represent Aotearoa, and make recommendations to ensure our Parliament is adaptable and inclusive.”

The committee must report to the Speaker setting out details of the review, conclusions reached and any recommendations.

The Speaker is required to submit this report to the House of Representatives. The committee’s report will be available publicly after it is tabled in the House.

Previous triennial review reports are available from the related links panel on this web page.
