Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising State Highway 2 has reopened between Gisborne and Wairoa.

National Journey Manager Helen Harris says the road had been closed due to slips and fallen trees, following the recent heavy rain in the Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne regions.

“Our contractors have worked hard to clear the road and make it safe and we know the communities that rely on this route will be glad to see it reopen.”

People are asked to remain alert and keep an eye out for contractors who may still be out clearing hazards from the road.

“We want to see everyone get home safely. Stay safe and stay alert.”
