Contractors will be replacing the road surface on State Highway 26 Allen Street, between Canada Street and the Waverley Street/Allen Street intersection, between Sunday 20 and Thursday 31 March.
To maximise efficiency on site whilst providing the safest environment for both crews and road users, the road will be closed to through traffic from 7am Sunday 20 March until 6pm Thursday 24 March, and again from 7am Sunday 27 March until 6pm Thursday 31 March.
Access to residential and commercial properties will be maintained during this time, and westbound (i.e.: towards Hamilton) heavy vehicles will be allowed to travel through site when safe to do so.
The detour for eastbound traffic from Hamilton is via Avenue Road North, Snell Street, Studholme Street, Coronation Road and Seales Road. For westbound light traffic the detour is as above, but in reverse order.
Whilst Waka Kotahi and its contractors have undertaken extensive planning to resource this work, the current Omicron strain of COVID-19 and related outbreak of positive cases may cause the work to be postponed or re-scheduled at short notice. We encourage people to check the Journey Planner website (journeys.nzta.govt.nz) for the latest information on our roadworks before they head out.
Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience while we undertake this important work on the state highway network.
Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
