Mr Roger Gray, a business leader with experience across the Maritime, Aviation, FMCG and Private Equity sectors in NZ and Australia, has joined Te Kaunihera o Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | the UC Council after being appointed by the Minister of Education Hon Chris Hipkins. He has been appointed for a four-year term commencing today, 1 March 2022.
In his role as a council member, Roger will contribute to the strategic leadership of the University. His leadership skills will be particularly beneficial for university planning given the impact of the pandemic and societal changes brought about by Covid-19.
Roger says he feels honoured to join the University’s governing body.
“I look forward to serving the Canterbury community as one of the Council members | Ngā Mema o te Kaunihera. It will be good to join this group of people in governing the local organisation and I am eager to get started, with the March Council meeting taking place this week.”
Roger has also recently accepted the role of CEO of Ports of Auckland, which will commence on 14 March after being the CEO of Lyttleton Port Company for two years and has previously worked in leadership roles at Air New Zealand.
The minister also thanked UC Councillor Sue McCormack, who has retired from the UC Council after 4 years as Tumu Kaunihera Chancellor, for her service to the University.
