Overseas merchandise trade statistics provide information on imports and exports of merchandise goods between New Zealand and other countries.
Key facts
This release refers to trade in goods only.
January 2022 monthly values are actual and compared with January 2021.
- Goods exports rose $656 million (16 percent) to $4.9 billion.
- Goods imports rose $1.1 billion (23 percent) to $5.9 billion.
- The monthly trade balance was a trade deficit of $1.1 billion.
- Exports to most top trading partners rose.
- Imports were up from all top trading partners.
