Strengthening work on Waiwawa River Bridge (SH25) in Coroglen in the Coromandel is set to get underway on Monday 28 February with short overnight closures while scaffolding is erected.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises the bridge will be closed periodically between 8pm and 6am to allow for contractors to safely prepare the site, and motorists should expect delays of 10 to 15 minutes during these hours.

This activity is being scheduled during the evening to minimise disruption to road users and is expected to take up to a week to complete.

Once the scaffolding is installed, strengthening works will likely take around four to five months. Traffic will generally not be affected during this period, with work able to be safety undertaken from beneath the bridge.

The bridge currently has a load restriction of 10km/h for heavy vehicles, which will be removed once the strengthening work is complete.

In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, this activity may be postponed.
