EIT has awarded Year 13 scholarships to 93 school leavers from last year, paving the way for them to enter degree programmes at EIT’s Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti campuses.

Each year, EIT offers Year 13 students the opportunity to get a scholarship to study at EIT. EIT receives a large number of applications and last year was no exception.

The scholarship is open to students intending to study a degree but is also available to students who wish to study certificate or diploma programmes that are embedded in a degree.

Glen Harkness, EIT’s Executive Director, Strategic Projects and Partnerships, says the institute is pleased to be able to support school students in Hawke’s Bay and Tairāwhiti to follow their dream of studying further.

“EIT has a wide range of degree programmes, and we are excited each year to be able to help learners on their journey towards a degree that will be a steppingstone into the workforce.”

“Once again the quality of the applications has been of a high standard, and we thank all those who took the time to apply. Congratulations to the learners who will receive the scholarships and we welcome them to the EIT whānau.”

The Year 13 Scholarship covers one year of tuition fees including any course related costs which have been approved to be included as part of the scholarship.

Currently the Government Fees Free policy covers the fees for their first year of study and this scholarship could cover the student’s second year of study. This could mean two years of their degree are fees free.

To qualify, students must meet the degree (or eligible certificate or diploma) entry criteria, be accepted to undertake full-time degree study at EIT, starting semester one, and any other terms and conditions related to the programme.

Of the 93 scholarships awarded for this year, 76 are in Hawke’s Bay and the remainder in Tairāwhiti.
