On 3 February, the New Zealand Government announced the next steps for reopening New Zealand’s border/reconnecting New Zealanders to the world.
Fully vaccinated New Zealanders will find it easier to come home from February 2022, as the Government removes the requirement for managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) for most travellers, and moves to a self-isolation requirement.

SafeTravel global advisory changes
In line with these changes the current SafeTravel COVID-19 global advisory (level 4 – “Do not travel”) will be removed and destination specific travel advisory levels will be reinstated using our four level advisory rating system. These changes will be made in two steps:
- At 11.59pm on 27 February 2022 the travel advisory for Australia only will be lowered to “exercise increased caution” (level 2 of 4);
- At 11:59 pm on 13 March 2022 the global travel advisory will be removed altogether and destination specific travel advisory levels will be reinstated
