Since November 2021, there have been reports of increased Russian military activity near Ukraine’s border with Russia and in Crimea.

New Zealanders in Ukraine are advised to monitor local and international media for updates, as the security situation could change at short notice. You can read our full Travel Advisory for Ukraine here.

New Zealanders whose presence in Ukraine is not essential, should consider leaving by commercial means if it is safe to do so. New Zealand’s ability to provide consular assistance to New Zealanders in Ukraine is very limited.

New Zealanders who choose to remain in Ukraine, should ensure that their travel documents are all up to date, and travel and contact details are registered on SafeTravel.  We provide further information about contingency planning, which New Zealanders in Ukraine may wish to consider, here.

New Zealanders in Ukraine  requiring urgent consular assistance can contact the New Zealand Embassy in Warsaw (accredited to Ukraine) at or the 24/7 Consular emergency line on +64 99 20 20 20

The New Zealand Government continues to advise that all New Zealanders do not travel overseas at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, associated health risks and widespread travel restrictions.
