Contractors will be undertaking overnight resealing on two state highways next week to reduce traffic disruption and make the most of the warm weather the Waikato has been experiencing recently.
A section of State Highway 1 between Hydro Road and Gorton Road in Karapiro will be resealed on Tuesday 25 January 2022 between 7pm and 6am. During this time Stop/Go traffic management and a 30km/h temporary speed limit will be in place.
The following night (Wednesday 26 January 2022), State Highway 39 (Koura Drive) will be closed between the SH1/SH39 interchange and the SH39/Burbush Road/Te Kowhai Road roundabout, from 8pm to 5am. During this time, road users will be detoured via SH1, Great South Road and Horotiu Road while the full length of both lanes is resealed, adding approximately 10 minutes to travel times.
The road will be re-opened under a reduced speed limit on Thursday 27 January 2022 to allow the new seal to bed in safely, before being closed again for a couple of hours that night to allow for sweeping of loose chip and road marking.
Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience while we undertake this important work to improve the state highway network.
