To ensure the safety of those using SH88, at Ravensbourne the road is down to one lane, while investigations continue into the cause of a sink hole over a highway culvert adjacent to Moller Park.

The hole is in the lane heading to Port Chalmers. To minimise disruptions to motorists temporary traffic signals are operating at the site until further notice.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Senior Network Manager Chris Harris said the sink hole appeared in the last couple of days. The site is being monitored and the culvert has been visually inspected with CCTV cameras.

“However, the results were inconclusive and more work is needed to pin point the exact cause of the sink hole. This information is critical to ensuring an effective and lasting repair for those who rely on this busy highway. As a first step, contractors will remove the road surface on Monday to undertake further investigations.

“We understand the importance of having both lanes of the highway operating in this area, and our contractors are committed to making this happen as quickly as practical,” says Mr Harris.

Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience and following the temporary speed limits to ensure everyone’s safety.
