One bylaw replacement and amendments to two other bylaws have been approved by Auckland Council’s Governing Body.
The new Public Trading, Events and Filming Bylaw 2022 will come into effect on 26 February 2022, while the amended Animal Management Bylaw 2015 and Water Supply and Wastewater Network Bylaw 2015 will come into effect on 20 December 2021.
Councillor Linda Cooper, Chair of the council’s Regulatory Committee, says the introduction of these updated bylaws will help protect Auckland for the future.
“These bylaws have new provisions that look to the future and take into account Auckland’s population growth and effects on the environment.
“The wording of the bylaws has also been updated to make them easier to read, understand and comply with.”
Public Trading, Events and Filming Bylaw 2022
Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau Te Ture ā-Rohe Tauhokohoko, Whakahaerenga me te Tango Kiriata Tūmatanui 2022 / Auckland Council Public Trading, Events and Filming Bylaw 2022 helps minimise public safety risks, nuisance and the misuse of council-controlled public places.
The new Bylaw replaces the current Trading and Events in Public Places Bylaw 2015 and will continue to require most trading, event and filming activities in council parks or civic spaces to have prior approval (licence or permit) from the council.
Amended Animal Management Bylaw 2015
Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau Te Ture-ā-rohe Tiaki Kararehe 2015 / Auckland Council Animal Management Bylaw 2015 helps minimise risks to public health and safety, nuisance, offensive behaviour and the misuse of council-controlled public places.
The main changes include incorporating rules from another bylaw to ensure the feeding of animals on private property does not cause a public nuisance.
Amended Water Supply and Wastewater Network Bylaw 2015
Administered by Watercare, Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau Ture ā Rohe Whakarato Wai me te Pae Kōtuitui Wai Para 2015 / Auckland Council Water Supply and Wastewater Network Bylaw 2015 helps protect and build resilience to Auckland’s public water supply and wastewater networks.
The main changes include clarifying that it is prohibited to put any disposable wipes, paints, solvents, unused pharmaceutical products and plastic bags into the wastewater network.
