An independent panel has granted resource consents for a project to produce hydrogen for fuel in the transport industry.
Hiringa Energy and Ballance Agri-Nutrients sought consents for the renewable green hydrogen hub under the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-track Consenting) Act 2020.
Electricity generated by four wind turbines will provide baseload power to the nearby Ballance Agri-Nutrients plant at Kapuni, and produce hydrogen from water via electrolysis.
The decision comes 74 working days after the application was lodged with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).
We are not involved in the decision-making. The EPA provides advice and administrative support for the Panel Convener, Judge Newhook, and the expert consenting panels he appoints.
