As the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) enters its second decade, the independent regulator is extending a warm welcome to its new Board Chair, Rob Campbell.
“We are pleased to welcome Mr Campbell, and look forward to benefitting from his extensive governance experience,” says the EPA’s Chief Executive, Dr Allan Freeth.
Mr Campbell replaces Julie Hardaker, whose term expired in November.
“As Chairperson of the EPA for more than three years, Julie helped to guide the organisation during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also led the Heads of EPA Australia and New Zealand (HEPA) group, which works to harmonise environmental regulation in Australasia.”
Paul Connell will also join the EPA Board, after previously serving as independent chair of the EPA’s audit and risk committee.
Jeroen Douwes – Director of Massey University’s Centre for Public Health Research – has been reappointed to the Board for a second term.
The EPA’s responsibilities cover hazardous substances and new organisms, activities in the waters around New Zealand, climate change, and resource management.
The EPA Board sets the organisation’s strategic direction and monitors its performance. The Minister for the Environment appoints Board members.
