The virtual signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding renewal took place online earlier this month.

Massey University has renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) in Sri Lanka.

Vice Chancellor Professor Jan Thomas signed the MOU during the virtual ceremony earlier this month with her counterpart Vice Chancellor of KDU, Major General Milinda Peiris. His Excellency the High Commissioner of New Zealand in Sri Lanka Mr. Michael Edward Appleton, and The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka for New Zealand H.E. Mr. Senarath Dissanayake also attended the event alongside academic staff.

At the ceremony, Professor Jan Thomas highlighted the similarities between the two countries and praised Sri Lankan students who are already studying at Massey.

Massey’s relationship with KDU was established in 2012 when a MOU centred on defence was signed. That agreement expired in 2017. The renewed MOU between the two institutions extends the areas of collaboration with the Centre for Defence and Security Studies, as well as initiating new collaborations with the Joint Centre for Disaster Research and the College of Sciences, including a 2+2 articulation pathway into the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) programme for KDU students.

KDU is located at Kandawala, Ratmalana, Colombo. It is a joint defence service training institute of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces.
