Getting advice on how to cut down waste and create a better environmental future by reducing rubbish sent to landfill will be easier after a Papakura Local Board grant.
Sustainable Papakura has received the grant to help teach volunteers by providing training, coaching and support that will ultimately create a pool of waste champion advisors for the area.
“The Sustainable Papakura team is very much a well-established part of our town, and we are lucky to have them,” board chair Brent Catchpole says.
“The team are famous for their sustainable reusable shopping bags but perhaps less well known is the mountain of classes available to learn all sorts of skills aimed at providing a better and greener future for our area.”
Sustainable Papakura has a website here that lists courses and programmes, subject to COVID-19 restrictions.
Several groups working with the public were also supported, including Victim Support, Youthline and the Well Women Franklin Network.
“We appreciate how hard it is in the current climate for groups to access funds, but it has been fulfilling to be able to provide a little help to groups that work tirelessly for other people.”

The board also supported eight other groups through multi-board grants, allowing groups operating in more than one board area to apply in all those areas.
