Ōtepoti – Kiwi kids can write to Santa this year and he will write back in te reo, NZ Post says.
In the past year, there has been a huge response to te wiki o te reo Māori and including more reo in people’s everyday lives.
NZ Post and Santa say they know the importance of reo and NZ Post is proud to be for the third year, offering the connection of writing to Santa for Kiwi kids to receive a response in Te Reo Māori.
For the third year, Kiwi kids have the opportunity to receive replies from Santa in te reo Māori and English.
NZ Post likes to share in the magic that Christmas brings and being a part of Kiwi kids’ experience of writing to Santa.
They have sent hundreds of responses in Te Reo Māori over the past few years and expect even more replies in te reo this year.
Last year, NZ Post developed a website that was visited by over 40,000 Kiwi kids, where they could send Santa an online letter.
They had access to Santa’s Ho Ho homepage, where they could read Santa’s emails, play games, listen to North Pole FM and browse Santa’s holiday snaps too.
NZ Post responded to almost 75,000 letters to Santa and this year they are helping Santa receive the responses and deliver replies to many more children this year. Messages can be sent online using their interactive website.
The deadline for website requests for personalised postcards from Santa delivered in the post is Monday, November 22.
From then, all online messages received by Santa up until December 22 will receive an email response.
If Kiwi kids want their classroom to receive a postcard from Santa this year, they can go to www.nzpost.co.nz/teacherswritetosanta to request a reply by November 15.
The last day for posting handwritten letters to Santa is December 1.
