Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to plan ahead for closures of State Highway 1 at Mackays Crossing over four nights starting this Sunday 3 October 2021.

The highway will be closed for three nights on Sunday 3 to Tuesday 5 October, plus an additional closure on Thursday 7 October, between the hours of 9pm and 5am each night.

The closures are to allow the Transmission Gully project team to install a cross-motorway gantry for the new motorway. The gantry is a steel overhead beam, spanning the width of the motorway, that will hold large variable messaging signs.

Traffic in both directions will detour via the Mackays Crossing interchange off and on ramps. Disruption is expected to be minimal, but motorists are advised to plan ahead.

The work is dependant on weather and may be postponed at short notice.
