Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising of northbound closures of State Highway 51 (SH51) between Napier and Awatoto over two days from Thursday 23 September to allow crews to repair damage to a wire rope barrier.

The road will be closed to northbound traffic from the Marine Parade/Ellison Street intersection to the Awatoto Road intersection on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 September, between the hours of 9am and 3pm each day.

Northbound traffic will detour via Te Awa Avenue during the closure period. Southbound traffic can continue to use SH51 past the repair site, but there will be a temporary speed restriction in place for the safety of crews and road users.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and factor additional time into their journeys if travelling during this period. Waka Kotahi also asks motorists to take extra care when travelling past the repair site and to adhere to the temporary speed limit.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey. Keep up to date with:
