It’s Cook Islands Language Week in Aotearoa from 5 September to 11 September, and episode five of this year’s AUT Pacific Language Week video series has been released.

Narrated in narrated in Tongan, the video shares the facts that myth-bust the false belief that stroke is just a disease of the elderly.

In our Pacific communities, for example, more than 60 per cent of those affected by stroke are younger than 65 years.

View our Tonga Language Week video below to find out more about some key statistics relating to stroke in New Zealand, how to recognise the signs of stroke and what you can do to reduce your risk for developing this disease of the brain.

Check out the AUT Stroke Riskometer™ app

The video encourages the use of the free Stroke Riskometer mobile app developed by Professor Valery Feigin, Professor Feigin, Director of the National Institute for Stroke and Applied Neurosciences at AUT, to assess their individual risk of stroke and undertake efforts to reduce the risk. The app also been endorsed by the World Stroke Organisation, the World Heart Foundation, the World Federation of Neurology, and the European Stroke Organisation.
