Writer Sygurd Wiśniowski, from Tarnopol province in Galicia, visited Auckland in the 1860s.

He penned an autobiographical novel, first published in Polish as ‘Dzieci Królowej Oceanii’ and later in English translation by Auckland University Press as ‘Tikera’ or ‘Children of the Queen of Oceania’.

Wiśniowski portrays colonial New Zealand at the time of the New Zealand Wars from a continental European perspective. Come and find out about his homeland, travels and impressions.
