Auckland Transport has begun a new way of working with the community, as part of its Connected Communities project.

AT is looking to work more collaboratively with its community partners and stakeholders, engaging early to consider options before final planning decisions are made.

Connected Communities will develop travel options for 14 major arterial routes in Auckland. Due to population growth, a lot more people will be using these routes, which are often congested already, and currently provide few choices for users. There are also many opportunities for improvement.

The first route to be focused on is New North Road, which has a wide range of issues including safety.

A series of community workshops is under way or will be held, involving Collaborative Panels. The panels are made up of a diverse range of representatives from communities, stakeholders and groups using the road. They will provide ongoing input into the project.
