Kia orana. Turou oro mai. Join us in celebrating Cook Islands Language Week with the Akatokamanava Mauke Enua Community of Tāmaki Makaurau.

The community will be performing and hosting free activities Under the Tanoa in Te Ao Mārama South Atrium on Saturday 7 August from 10.30am-2.15pm.

10.30am-11.15am: Peu Akatutu (Performing Arts): Hop into a dance and music workshop (no prior experience required) with a live performance from the community to follow.

11.15am-12pm: Vivo Ko’e (Bamboo Nose Flute): Learn the art of bamboo flute construction. Enjoy a live musical performance to follow.

12pm-12.45pm: To’i Rakau (Wood Carving): Take part in a workshop focusing on carved percussion instruments. Enjoy an interactive drumming performance to follow.

1.30pm-2.15pm: Peu Akatutu (Performing Arts): Hop into a dance and music workshop (no prior experience required!) with a live performance from the community to follow.

After interacting with the community, head over to Te Taunga Community Hub just off the Grand Foyer to explore Te Mekameka o toku Ipukarea (The Treasures of My Homeland), Akatokamanava Mauke Enua’s community-curated exhibit.

The exhibit, which closes on 8 August, features a free booklet filled with the community’s stories of their taonga, all written in Mauke dialect as well as English.
