Police are at the Waikawa Museum following information received about a substance of concern being located.

As a result, the museum has been closed to the public.

The New Zealand Defence Force Explosive Ordance Disposal unit based in Christchurch has been notified and they have sent a team down to assess the situation and dispose of the substance safely. 

The disposal will happen today in a safe environment away from the museum.

Police and fire staff are working closely with the The NZ Defence Force Explosive Ordance Disposal team to ensure this incident is managed safely.
