HAARE MAHANGA TE WEHINGA WILLIAMS (Dr) MNZM QSM PhD

Iwi – Te Aitanga-a-Mahaki, Rongowhakaata, Tuhoe

“Rimaha has made earth homes before now, of manuka stakes, collected raupo from the swamp, wiwi from the seashore, straw from the fields in-situ abodes and earth plastered exterior walls. He probably wouldn’t get NZIA Awards or Resene Research Fellow for earth-built houses, nor a life-membership citation presented by the Queen, but ahem we lived in luxury for isn’t that the task of a skilled architect.”

Haare Williams talks about the symbolism of a house being Kainga, made with love of Whenua, Moana and Ngahere; looking to our rangatahi and looking to sculpt our future.

Haare will illustrate his chat with his poetry, ‘Wisdom of a Kaumatua.’
