Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises bridge deck surface maintenance will be carried out on the Hikuai Bridge on State Highway 25 on Friday 25 June.
Work will be carried out at night between 7pm and 6am. Traffic will be stopped for one-hour windows for Higgins contractors to carry out the surface maintenance work. Traffic will be let through at the end of each hour with the first opening happening at 8pm for waiting vehicles.
Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and, where possible, schedule their travel for outside these works, or expect long delays.
Hikuai Bridge is an ageing one-way bridge, which will need to be repaired in the near future. The bridge in its current state is safe, regularly inspected and receives regular maintenance, like this deck surface work. Waka Kotahi will keep the community informed before decisions are made about future repairs.
In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed. For the latest information on the works each night, visit our interactive Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website.
