‘Walk the Talk’ – Exposing recent studio work from the Bachelor of Applied Arts, NorthTec

Anyone keen to study applied arts at NorthTec is welcome to visit a special exhibition of recent student studio works in Whangārei.

Walk the Talk, at The Shutter Room (at the back of the Old Library in Rust Avenue), opens on Friday, 18 June and runs until Saturday, 31 July.

The opening takes place from 4pm to 6pm, and gallery hours are Wednesdays to Fridays, 10.30am to 2.30pm, and Saturdays, 10am to 12.30pm.

NorthTec arts tutor, Ellie Smith, said: “The Bachelor of Applied Arts is a very practical arts course and most of our papers are studio-based, so come in and see some of the amazing things students have made over the last few years. If you’re thinking of doing some serious art study, this exhibition will give you a good idea of the sorts of wonderful mahi done by our students.

“It can open you up to a wide range of careers in the creative industries. As well as working as practicing artists, art administrators and teachers, our graduates have gone on to amazing careers in fields as diverse as wedding and events photographers, gallery owners, graphic designers, conservators, art therapists and book illustrators.

“Many of our graduates have also continued on to postgraduate study at other tertiary institutions.”
NorthTec has a mid-year intake for the degree programme, starting in mid-July. Anyone wanting more information can or visit https://www.northtec.ac.nz/programmes/applied-arts/bachelor-of-applied-arts or phone 0800 162 100.
