Getting their funding application approved means that Dawson School can now install a solar power system at Dawson Primary which will help tamariki stay warm at school during the winter months.
It is one of 33 local groups that are receiving support after Ōtara-Papatoetoe approved more than $193,000 worth of funding applications through its latest local board and multi-board grants rounds.
Part of the funding would go towards various sports activities and the renovation of the court at Manukau Tennis Sports and Community Centre, and while another $7500 would back victim support volunteers in Counties Manukau Central.
These grants enable the local community groups to carry out key activities and projects that are important for our people and the local board area.
The latest grant rounds were heavily oversubscribed with applications for more than $451,000 worth of funding requests.
Local Board Chair Apulu Reece Autagavaia says, “We are pleased to do our part and support these amazing community groups as they carry out activities that matter and align with the local board’s priorities.
“All the applications were from groups working hard in the community delivering all kinds of activities and projects that have enormous value – socially, culturally, and economically.
“But we had to make some tough decisions and had to turn some good people away,” says Autagavaia.
