Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises works have commenced on State Highway 2 in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

These works are part of the SH2 Wainui Road to Ōpōtiki safety improvements project and are expected to take approximately six months to complete, weather permitting.

The construction team is currently preparing two sites between SH2/Wainui Road intersection and SH2/Waiōtahe Valley Back Road intersection. Once complete, they will continue with widening the road shoulder and installing roadside safety barriers.

A site office will be established adjacent to Waiōtahe Waitomo Fuel Station later this month.

There will be speed restrictions, lane closures and stop/go traffic management in place. You may experience minor delays as a result of the work, and we thank you for your patience.

Please take extra care when driving through the work sites, adhere to any temporary speed limits and follow the directions of traffic management staff and signage for your safety, and that of our road workers and other road users.

Visit the interactive Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website for the latest information on roadworks, traffic, road closures and detours to help plan your trip.
