We were blown away by the knowledge and eagerness of the AUT students at the ICT and Engineering Career Fair, says Plexure Recruitment Advisor Pratik Sridhar.

“AUT has clearly done a great job fostering such inquisitive minds. Our team had a great time engaging with the students and we’d love to be involved with more such events/ presentations in the future.”

Plexure, a global mobile engagement company, was one of 35 Engineering Information and Communication Technology organisations that came on campus on Wednesday 24 March to meet in person with students and discuss their graduate and internship programmes.

The organisations covered a wide spectrum of industry, including Deloitte, Beca, Babcock, Dempsey Wood, Davanti Consulting, Readiness IT, McKay, Plexure, Cin7 and Fulton Hogan.

Many expressed their delight at being able to attend an onsite event after many months of virtual connections.

More than 500 students attended the fair, creating a huge buzz as they lined up to speak with employers. The students said they were keen to make the most of the opportunity to meet up with potential employers, as well as find out about application requirements for graduate and internship programmes.

Mechanical Engineering student Lynn Catton was looking for an internship to cover the industry hours she is required to do to complete her engineering degree. Her long-term goal is project management and was looking for a way to get a foot in the door. She says the NZ Defence Forces were particularly interesting.

“The woman I spoke to was really helpful and informative. I also spoke to Honeywell who do a mix of everything, including smart buildings, security, lots of big industrial engineering jobs.”

Leanne Bint, External Engagement & Development coordinator for Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences, says it was an enjoyable and productive day.

“Students impressed our industry friends with their curiosity and preparedness and students enjoyed face to face conversations with professionals and alumni!”

Leanne was one of the main organisers of the ICT & Engineering Career Fair along with Employability and Careers Employability Relationship Manager Rachael Marsters and the Employability and Careers team.
