April 24, 2021 – Match reports from Round 1 of the second tier Crown Lift Trucks Fox Championship Qualifiers played on April 24.

Papatoetoe 16 Manurewa 36

A three-try showing from hooker DJ Phillips, coupled with a double from prop Isileli Matalave, led the Marlins to victory. While the game was close throughout the first half, the visitors pulled away in the second spell.

Pakuranga 20 Hibiscus Coast 26

Two tries in the final 10 minutes saw Hibiscus Coast get up over Pakuranga to open the new season. With their side trailing by two, both Liam Ackland and Johnny Faaee went over for tries to get the Raiders home.

Eastern United 34 Waitemata 42

Waitemata denied Eastern United a debut victory with a gutsy second-half showing, after leading the new merger team by just four at half time. Wing Cole Samuels and lock Kenny Henry-Taua – who played for Auckland Blue in the recent National U20s Competition – scored doubles for Mahara Campbell’s side.

Manukau 48 Otara 16

Manukau picked up where they left off last year with a comprehensive performance at Moyle Park which saw them down neighbouring Otara. Tamore Nati scored twice in the win, while hooker Desmond Toofohe was impressive. Last year the Magpies were undefeated at the point of the season being cancelled.
