The April Henderson-Massey Local Board Business Meeting is set to be a significant occasion, as it will be the final meeting with Chris Carter and Will Flavell in the Chair and Deputy Chair roles.

It follows an agreement made at the start of the council term that the roles would be split at the halfway point of the term, with Vanessa Neeson and Brenda Brady to take the reins for the remainder.

Off-site

The meeting is also unique in that it will be held away from the council chambers at the Te Atatu Peninsula Community Centre, a practice that has seen the board hold off-site meetings in various locations across the area in the past.

It will mean that Mr Carter will end his role in his ‘home’ turf, following his period as teacher at Rutherford College and as MP for Te Atatu in the 90s and early 2000s.

“Being Chair has certainly been a rewarding experience and holding my final meeting as Chair in Te Atatu does have a certain significance to it given my association with the area,” he says.

Thanks

“I would like to thank the members of the board for their support and hard work over the last 18 months. I would particularly like to acknowledge Will Flavell for his support and his contributions to the board’s work programme.

“Will is a very talented young man who, like me, is a former Rutherford College teacher. He is an excellent public speaker with a real gift for languages. Will is fluent in Maori, Japanese and is mastering the Samoan language. I believe he has a bright future in politics.

“I would also like to place on record my thanks to all the staff behind the scenes who help keep the work the board does moving, and for their professionalism and support that they provide all of us.

“While I am stepping down from the Chair, both Will and I will remain on the board and will support Vanessa and Brenda as they take the roles for the next 18 months.

“We are all one big team at Henderson-Massey and delivering for the community is at the very heart of what we do. I look forward to continuing that work as we move into the second half of the term.”

The April Business meeting takes place at 4pm, 20 April at Te Atatu Community Centre and is open to the public.
