Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises Stop/Go traffic management will be in place at the intersection of State Highway 3 and Waikeria Road, south of Te Awamutu, on weekdays between 3pm and 6pm from Monday 19 April.
Traffic management is being put in place due to the large number of vehicles turning right out of Waikeria Road on to SH3 during the afternoon peak, leading to delays and congestion around the intersection. This increase in traffic is due to construction activity at Waikeria Prison.
Outside these hours Waikeria Road will operate as normal.
Motorists travelling this section of SH3 on weekday afternoons are advised to allow extra time for their journey, including the hour before 3pm and the hour after 6pm, while the Stop/Go operation is being set up and taken down.
The traffic management will remain in place while the volume of traffic leaving the prison in the afternoons remains high.
Waka Kotahi thanks motorists for their patience.
Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
