Virtual celebrations were held on 17 and 24 March 2021 for the 42 mental health and addiction sector participants who recently completed the new Health Quality & Safety Commission ‘Quality in action’ course on foundation quality improvement concepts and practice.
The six-month course was developed by the Commission’s mental health and addiction quality improvement programme team.
Course participants learned about co-design and quality improvement methods and tools, while applying those to a practical quality improvement project, at either a district heath board, non-governmental organisation or other agency.
The course comprises four modules:
- Co-design
- Quality improvement
- Measurement
- Spread, sustain and celebrate.
Weekly virtual coaching was offered throughout the ‘action’ periods in between each module and participants nominated both a sponsor and an organisational coach for local support and leadership.
Feedback from course participants has been captured and was mainly positive. The Commission will also be carrying out an external evaluation of the course and incorporate learning and participant feedback into our future course delivery.
We would like to congratulate the 2020/21 course participants, and their sponsors, coaches and regional course support team, for their excellent work and acknowledge the many others who supported the course by contributing valuable knowledge and experience.
