Kia ora! The countdown is on! There are only four days left to submit your two minute video for the Rangatahi mō Papatūānuku! There’s still plenty of time to pick up a camera or phone and get creative…

The Rangatahi mō Papatūānuku video competition closes next Monday 15 March at midnight! This is your last chance to get your video into the competition – and be in to win some great prizes too. Head to the Rangatahi mō Papatūānuku webpage for up to date information on the competition.

To submit your video please read over the terms and conditions of the competition and make sure you agree to them. They include important information on music use, consent and other legal bits.

You’re then ready to upload your video! Submit your creation here. You’ll need a Google account to fill out the form. If you don’t have one, no worries. It’ll only take a few minutes for you to set one up…

We can’t wait to see your videos and your ideas on the things that can be done to ensure  Papatūānuku can thrive. If your idea is still a work in progress, have a think about one or all of these three areas in relation to te taiao: What do you wish you’d been able to see in the past, What do you see now, and What would you like to see in the future. If you need some additional support, have a look at the online workshop content to help you create your 2-minute factual video. And, if you have any queries, you can also contact us at rangatahivids@doc.govt.nz

It’s not too late to turn your idea into a video!

Here are three reasons why you should enter the Rangatahi mō Papatūānuku video competition:

1. It’s an opportunity for you to be a part of the conversation, on te taiao. Human activity has put our natural world at risk. Our climate is changing, natural systems are vulnerable and more native species than ever are endangered.  If you are someone who cares about Papatūānuku now and in the future, then share your story through this competition with whānau, friends and people of Aotearoa. Video and social media are powerful ways to connect with people, so let your voice be heard.

2. Video making is fun and creative. You can do it alone or with friends. You learn more each time you make a video and you get to meet some great people with interesting stories. There’s something very rewarding about seeing your final creation out there in the world.

3. Don’t forget about the amazing prizes you could win!! For each of the six categories, the winner will receive $1000 and the runner up will receive $500. That’s 12 opportunities to win some prize money. Categories are: Creative content; Te Reo Māori; Memory; Funny; Ambassador for protection of the rohe; and Rangatahi presenter choice (as chosen by our awesome presenter, Sonny!).

The Rangatahi mō Papatūānuku video competition is open to anyone aged 16 – 25 and a resident of Aotearoa New Zealand. We can see from our analytics that there’s already strong interest on social media and our webpage from across the country – Northland, Hawke’s Bay, Marlborough, Auckland and Otago (to name a few). Wherever you call home, we hope you’ll participate in this important kaupapa.

Any questions, email us at rangatahivids@doc.govt.nz.
