Waka Kotahi NZ Transport is thanking people for their patience throughout the construction of safety improvements on State Highway 2 (SH2) at Bayview.
Work has been underway to rebuild and widen a section of the road, install roadside barriers and construct several retaining walls.
As the work at the site begins to wind down, Regional Transport Systems Manager Oliver Postings is taking the opportunity to thank motorists and businesses for their patience and understanding, even as journeys were disrupted at times due to the work.
“We know that the work on this busy section of road has caused some disruption to people’s journeys. We’ve tried to keep two lanes open whenever possible and avoid disrupting businesses during busy hours, however that hasn’t always been possible due to the tightness of the site and the nature of the works.
“At times, this has caused delays, including delays of up to 40 minutes one night, so we apologise to people whose journeys were affected and thank everyone for being so patient.
“We also thank our crews who have been working very long hours to complete the improvements, which will make the road safer for everyone, and kept us on track to complete the work as per our schedule,” Mr Postings says.
The current work will finish in the coming weeks, however crews will be returning to the area next year to rebuild the remaining Bayview section of SH2 between Rogers Road and south of Onehunga Road.
