Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is holding a community open day event at the Katikati War Memorial Hall on Wednesday, 17 February 2021.
The event will provide an update and overview of the work taking place and planned for the State Highway 2 Waihī to Tauranga corridor. Waka Kotahi will be sharing progress on the Waihī to Ōmokoroa safety improvements project, where our plans are at for the new Takitimu North Link expressway project, and what else is happening to make this stretch of state highway safer.
Regional Manager Infrastructure Delivery Jo Wilton said the Open Day is a great opportunity for Waka Kotahi, its partners and the community to come together.
“There is a lot of work happening along this stretch of road and we are keen to meet with people in the community and our stakeholders to share progress, talk about what’s to come and listen to the views of locals and our stakeholders.”
Visitors will have the chance to find out more about work happening along the corridor by speaking to people involved in these roading projects, across safety engineering, geotechnical, virtual reality, design and much more.
This event marks the halfway point of the $101 million safety improvements project between Waihī and Ōmokoroa and is a chance to share what it takes to deliver a complex project of this scale.
“There will be displays by survey, geotechnical, tangata whenua, construction, utilities, and other partners. We encourage the community to come along, bring the kids, enjoy the sausage sizzle and have a chat.”
